The honu, or turtle, is an endangered species. Beloved by many, it has been depicted in many an artwork. On land, the honu slowly makes its way carefully choosing it's life path. In the ocean, the honu gracefully glides, turns and flips. With a hard shell to protect itself, the honu has proven itself to have a long adventure filled life.

The patterns created by the hard shell and the scales on its skin have inspired Tahitian artists to create distinctively Tahitian tattoo motifs.

Artwork is created on a cotton canvas fabric. Block print of tattoo and brushed earthtones of Tahitian clay.

The Huahine Collection by Julien Nicolas
inspired by Tahitian tatau and ancient origins.

Raised on the island of Huahine, artist Julien Nicolas grew to love his native culture and the natural beauty and resources of the island. Throughout his
education, he had the desire to express this interest in artistic ways. He has put his experience of both Polynesian life and European culture down on paper. This unique combination has led him to create a collection of work that he has put created on a medium not usually used as a palette - cotton.
